A Tribute to Sisterhood and Flowers

A Tribute to Sisterhood and Flowers

Today, on International Women’s Day, we take a moment to reflect on what this day means to us as a small, family-run farm—owned and operated by a family of four sisters who grew up together, chasing dreams that have somehow led us here, to this beautiful rural coastal town Mendocino, California we now call home.

This day is about honoring the achievements, resilience, and contributions of women throughout history and across the world. International Women’s Day has its roots in the early 1900s when women began organizing for better working conditions, voting rights, and equality. Over time, it has grown into a global celebration of the power and beauty of women, as well as a reminder of the work still to be done.

For us, this flower farm is most of all about our faith but also a testament to the strength of women, the gift of sisterhood, and the profound influence a mother can have on her daughters. Our Mom’s love for flowers and Creation shaped us more than we ever realized. It was a steady force in our lives—one that ultimately inspired us to build a life where we could cultivate wonder and beauty, work with our hands, and raise our own daughters with the same awe for Creation.

When we chose to uproot our lives in Southern California and settle here, it wasn’t just about growing flowers, pumpkins, and the best-tasting potatoes (seriously, why are these potatoes so good?!). It was about choosing a life where we could work together—supporting each other’s dreams, leaning on each other’s strengths, and finding joy in the everyday work of farming as a family.

Families of all daughters sometimes get a bad rap. Our Dad certainly heard his share of “condolences” when people learned he was raising four girls. But he always responded with pride, celebrating us rather than seeing us as anything less than a gift. There is something profoundly beautiful about women supporting women—about sisters growing together, about mothers inspiring daughters, about working alongside one another, lifting each other up, and allowing each person to shine in the way they were made to.

And while this post is about celebrating women, we can’t go without acknowledging the incredible men who stand beside us. Our Dad and husbands are an essential part of this dream, working right alongside us with their strong hands and unwavering support. We truly couldn’t do this without them, and we are grateful for the way we all build this life together.

Dahlias, in all their intricate, breathtaking beauty, are only a glimpse of what happens when care, patience, and love are poured into something. Perhaps they are also a reflection of the beauty that unfolds when women come together—working hard, lifting each other up, and creating something greater than themselves.

So today, we celebrate. We celebrate women, we celebrate family, and we celebrate the joy of working together to cultivate wonder—both in the fields and in life.

Happy International Women’s Day!
